The Huebel Hammock Has MOVED!

Tuesday, December 22, 2020

Guys and Gals the Huebel Hammock has moved to a new location on the world wide web... Please make sure to bookmark the new spot: https://huebelhammock.blogspot.com/

The very abbreviated story is that during editing of the original Huebel Hammock to the new formatting, the account got locked and part of the blog content was deleted (so 2020 right?).  Thankfully I had a back-up and decided to go ahead and make the switch to the new location (which wasn't locked). In the meantime the Huebel Hammock was restored and now I'm only upkeeping the new new. Head on over and join me there!

Month 5

Thursday, July 23, 2020
The quarantine weeks have turned into months. 2020 has been quite the doozy. There are certainly good days and bad days in this journey. As July comes to an end, I am trying to soak up the little things. Be present and mindful. (Boy it's a challenge sometimes). For example, I have realized that as much as I dislike waking up in the morning, I love being woken up by my two little munchkins who start the day full of energy and questions.  It's always funny to see what outfits they've picked out for themselves. And another favorite thing- stealing kisses from the kids in the middle of a work day simply because I can. :)

No matter where you are sunsets are free and they are some soul therapy! Hang in there y'all.

Week 9

Monday, May 18, 2020
We are on the last 2 weeks of digital school. We succumbed and got the girls new iPads which actually work. I’m expected a whole lot of learning now :)

This quote jumped out at me, particularly relevant during a pandemic, with lots of uncertainty about the future.

Blue angels

Wednesday, May 06, 2020
Before lunch today we ran to the park at the end of the street to watch the blue angels fly over. Well they didn’t exactly fly over us. It ended up being more of a distant glimpse but the girls had fun. Let’s be honest Ross had the most fun. :)

Apparently my brother had an awesome vantage point from their place. Too bad they’re moving to Atlanta next month 😢

Margarita

I can’t make this up...

P had an upset tummy yesterday and after a trip to the potty she comes out and declares that she has a little bit of “margarita” and needs to drink some more water to feel better...

Margarita=diarrhea

:)

Week 8

Sunday, May 03, 2020
El Arroyo has been saving us all with their humorous daily marquee. Here's the one from this morning-

What if you're a squirrel in traffic inside and outside, then what?

It's the start of "Huebel Lock Down- Week 8" edition... This week I'm looking forward to eating fajitas tomorrow and hopefully receiving a Container Store shipment :) I'm going to try and start blogging more regularly again, unless I can't juggle all the balls in the (current) air :)

Week 7

Monday, April 27, 2020
Week 7? what? Oh where to begin.

This lockdown period has been such an emotional rollercoaster. Some days are good, some bad. I feel so blessed to (still) have a job, but at the exact same time I am constantly thinking "how do I effectively work and take care of the kids?" The lunch-time family workouts have been a fun stress relief for everyone, but how will we adapt when Texas summer arrives? And how is it possible that both our iphones took a nose dive this week, basically a month outside of the 2-year warranty- did apple plan that?

The governor announced that Texas will start to reopen on Friday, which brings a wave of anxiety in and of itself. Time will tell if this is the right decision.

Hang in there everyone!

Week 3 begins

Monday, March 30, 2020
Is it over yet? This all feels like a dream we're about to wake up from right?

I was convinced that tomorrow was Wednesday, but alas only Tuesday. All the days are blurring together. Today was a particularly difficult working/homeschooling/mom'ing day and I did none of these things particularly well. Good thing tomorrow is a new opportunity!

On a lighter note, we made a warm spinach salad for dinner and it was good. The girls ate it all up (I mean bacon anything C'mon...) and it only took 15 min of prep work.

Week 1

Sunday, March 22, 2020
Social Distancing Week #1 is complete. I'll be honest with you, it wasn't easy and that was with two added helpers (Mom and Dad were visiting). Week 2 begins tomorrow, without any helpers. School sent some awesome homeschool material but how exactly do you "work" and guide your kiddos through the curriculum? I'll let you know after this week!

In the meantime, have y'all been cooking at home a lot? Meal planning to make the most of grocery runs has been super important for us. I have been trying to plan out 5 meals at a time (main + sides). We gave this easy Beef Stroganoff a try tonight and it was great, ranking high on the effort vs reward matrix :) We made it with a mix of venison and beef because that's what we had and opted for the 2 hour stove version rather than the slow cooker. The dijon gives it a nice tangy flavor.

CoVid-19

Monday, March 16, 2020
Y'all how crazy is the world right now? Schools closed, office buildings vacant, travel plans disrupted, extended spring breaks, bars/restaurants quiet, oil prices dropping, upheaval of the stock market, self isolation for unknown period of time...

The chaos is real.

So I am trying to take a deeeeeeeep breath and let each day unfold rather than have anxiety about all the different possible outcomes of the next week or month.

I'm going to need some home workouts STAT :)

I may take a break from the the blog during this time of trying to establish a new normal.

Be safe everyone!

Camping

Tuesday, March 10, 2020
Ross took the girls "camping" at the ranch on our last trip. Camping in this context is defined by setting up a tent right next to the ranch house. They set-up the tent, unrolled the sleeping bags, and pumped up the air mattresses. When it was bed time they were so excited to be camping that the littles just couldn't calm down and fall asleep. Every little outdoor noise brought a new question. Finally, after about an hour of this,  Ross and I went in the tent and asked them if they were ready to go sleep in their beds and they said YES!

They'll be ready next time!
