Sagrada Familia

Sunday, October 11, 2015
There is a truly amazing cathedral in Barcelona called the Sagrada Familia. We saw a handful of beautiful churches on our trip, but the history and architecture of this church is most definitely unique and special. It is hard to capture certain aspects with photos, for example the height of the soaring ceilings or the way the light filters into the building. So you'll just have to visit in person... be sure to book your tickets in advance!

A couple things you should know:
1. This church started construction in 1882; it is still under construction
2. The Sagrada Familia is considered Gaudi's masterpiece
3. Construction is supposed to finish in 2026
4. The original design calls for 18 spires, but only 8 have been completed (none of which include the tallest, which is to represent Christ)

The ceiling of the church makes you feel like you're in a forrest

There's a reason this church is a top Spain tourist destination!
