Pensacola

Our first "Family of Four" Vacation is now in the books! We got back today, despite a weather delay. Regular blog posts should pick up this week. In the meantime...

*Claire is NOT ready to skip naps. We missed nap time today due to our flight arrival time change and Missy was a grump-fuss the rest of the night. 8pm came an hour early today.

*Glass can be "too clean". Let's just say Claire had a run in with a glass door at our hotel. Ross and I stifled our laughs long enough to make sure everything looks alright.

*Paige isn't a little bitty baby anymore. There were 2 meals that Paige ate more than I did.

Paige at 9 Months

Easter Baskets

The girls got Easter baskets with breakfast Easter morning.

Claire was thrilled with chocolate and new socks were pretty good too. The shirts and money weren't as popular. I'm sure that will change in the future...

Little P pretty much just liked holding the plastic eggs and trying to eat them.

The Why Phase

We've entered the toddler "Why Phase." I knew it would come,  I just didn't realize how much it would test my patience.

Me: "Can you take your shoes off Claire"
C: "Why Mom?"

Me: "Finish your dinner and you can have a treat"
C: "Why?"

Me: "Don't kick your sister please"
C: "Why Mom?"

It doesn't stop even when you try to answer the Why questions with non-Why-able answers. Here's a real life scenario, for illustration purposes:

Me: "Can you help me put these groceries away?"
C: "Why Mom?"
Me: "Because they need to stay cold in the refrigerator"
C: "Why?"
Me: "You don't want the ice cream to melt do you?"
C: "But why you not put the tomatoes in there too Mom?
Me: "Because they don't have to be cold"
C: "Why Mom?"
Me: "Ummm because tomatoes like it on the counter"

Now it's usually at this juncture where one of three responses can occur:
1. "Oooh" (My favorite)
2. "Why?" (I'm slowly going to go crazy)
3. "I don't want them on the counter! I want them in the fridge! NO MOOOOOOOM! I don't want nothing! You not being good Mom. I'm going to put you in the brown chair." (And a tantrum meltdown ensues)

I can tell Claire is just inquisitive; genuinely curious to know all the answers, so I don't want to ignore her.  But at the same time I don't want to lose my sanity. I do try and turn around the "Why" questions on her when I can, but she usually says "No mom, you tell me". haha.

 All in all, I know it's an important developmental stage, I just hope it doesn't last any longer than it needs to.

Jolin's Baby #3 Sprinkle

Baby Honas #3 will be arriving very soon-- Cinco de Mayo is his due date. I flew to Denver for some R&R spa time with Jolin and to celebrate baby boy. It was so fun catching up and also seeing other ex-Alaskans (Emily and Catherine) too!

Monday Sunshine

Monday, no Fun Day.

My commute to work is heavily dependent on the degree of sunshine. Let me explain: We live on the west side of Houston and I commute into downtown. When the sun is out in full force, no one knows how to drive. Everyone is like "I'm blinded ... ahhh kryptonite, I must slam on my breaks and make horrible driving decisions?!" This instant chaos can add up to 20 minutes to my morning commute. Not ok.

Oh, rain has the same effect.

Matching Outfits

There is just something about matching outfits, right?!

We are going to need some Mommy and Me outfits for the 3 of us. Something tells me Ross will have no problem sitting this one out...
