First Artwork

Monday, March 31, 2014
For some reason I decided that I needed to capture the size of Claire's cute little baby feet somehow. I put this on Gigi's "to-do" list and she was able to find some ideas on Pinterest. It was pretty comical painting her feet with purple finger paint and trying to explain to Ross why I needed to paint his left hand blue.

Behold, our work of art!

Purple feet!

She was not happy when it came to clean up time...

Now, what will the next project be? :)

Baby at Beluga Point

Ross wanted baby girl to have some "Alaska" baby pictures, so we went to Beluga Point on a beautiful day. Gigi and Pop Pop got some good pictures too.

Oh Happy Day, spring is coming and the snow is melting!

Family Pictures

Tuesday, March 25, 2014
Here are some "homegrown" family pictures we took last week. Claire was ~2 weeks old when these were taken. I can promise you that there were plenty of "bloopers" which I have not included below. Newborns don't always cooperate when you want them to!

The whole gang (minus Roma and Uncle Jeff)

Maybe I had to put Roma in a headlock :)

Thanks for helping us take pictures Gigi and Pop Pop!

Here are some newborn pictures of Miss Claire! They were all taken while she was a week to a week and half old. Cute little baby girl...

Multi-Tasking

Wednesday, March 19, 2014
I've been working on taking some newborn pictures of baby girl, but it's so much harder to do when you're a mommy...imagine that. Here's a peek into my days right now: feed the baby, change diapers, pump breastmilk, sneak in naps, take care of the injured pup, shower, and remember to eat. Are you sure other people have had babies before me? You mean I'm not the only mommy that feels like a milk machine? Good thing Gigi is here helping me get the hang of things! She's been helping take shifts with Claire, cooking, cleaning, and keeping my sanity.

Here's a sneak peek of some of the pictures and a little video I sent Dad today...

Road to recovery

Monday, March 17, 2014
So there are many things about labor & delivery that I didn't know until having a baby 12 days ago. There has been quite a learning curve since being back at home with a baby also.

Last week we had a hiccup when I started having severe abdominal pain and had to go to the ER (With baby Claire in tow). Turns out I had a uterus infection, more common in women whose water breaks before labor. This sidelined me for days leaving Ross solo with the baby. After another couple days I was diagnosed with a bladder infection. I asked mom to fly up early to help out and it made such a difference having another helping hand. I am feeling much better now and am getting my mobility back.

Baby Claire is totally worth it though :)

Sleep Deprivation

Tuesday, March 11, 2014
This happened today:

R: "There's a huge moose in our front yard!"
E: "Let me see... Woa he's huge!"
R: "Go grab your camera!"

30 seconds later...

R: "Where did he go?"
E: "I don't see him anywhere"
R: "Are we that sleep deprived that we imagined a giant moose eating on our front tree?"

Jury is out. Both answers are completely plausible.

Labor & Delivery

Monday, March 10, 2014
I was admitted to the hospital just before midnight on Monday March 3 after my water broke. We waited to see if my contractions would kick in naturally until lunchtime on Tuesday. They didn't, so to get things started I got a gradual dose of Petosin, a drug used to induce labor. The contractions really got under way around 2pm and I got an epideral around 3:30pm. I started the "pushing" phase at 6:30pm and Claire arrived at 8:38pm.

It was the hardest physical exertion I've ever experienced and I have new respect for Momma's :)
