HEB Curbside pick-up

Sunday, July 31, 2016
I was not paid to write this post-- promise.

HEB is pretty amazing and we live 1 mile from the Houston flagship store. However, such a great store comes at a price. It is one of the most difficult traffic patterns during peak hours and oooooh the crowds. Sometimes you flat out can't even find a spot. The store is also so big that there's no, "pop in and out" kinda trip. We pretty much avoid this HEB altogether and settle for the alternatives, which are either more expensive (Whole Foods) or not as good (sorry Kroger).

Enter HEB curbside pick-up.

For an additional $3 M-Th or $4.50 F-Su, you can do your shopping online and someone will shop for you, then load your groceries in your car at your pick-up time. Yes, I said SHOP FOR YOU!

I pulled up to the designated curbside pick-up area, which was deserted. There was a nifty screen at each parking spot which allowed you to enter your phone number or order number. Then a person came out with my bags and I left. The round trip took me about 15 min from house to store and back.

I'm sold!

Alaska memories

Thursday, July 28, 2016
In the heat of the Texas summer, it's easy to miss Alaska.

Claire's first hike up flat top:

In Girdwood at jack sprat:

The one and only Roma, cruising down Seward highway. Cold air blast!

Splish Spash

Tuesday, July 26, 2016
Paige got her first big girl bath after her umbilical cord fell off and we got the green light from the doctor (7/6/16). She was more chill than Claire was, which pretty much holds true for most things actually, but she did not like being cold. Warm snuggles with Gigi afterwards was her favorite part.

Evolution of the Huebel Hammock

Sunday, July 24, 2016
When I look back at old blog posts I realize how amazing it is to have essentially a photo journal type diary of life for the past 7+ years. I've learned so much about blog formatting and photography over the years. The content has definitely changed through time, but it's also a reflection of exactly what's going on in my life at the time. For example the Huebel Hammock has shifted from a mostly food/dog/travel blog to mostly a kiddo blog. Why? Because I'm a Momma and I want to make sure I archive lots of pictures of the family on the blog. I also hope I can get some time back for other hobbies like cooking to provide some additional diversity to the blog :)

I like to make the effort to go back in time on the blog every so often. I hope the Blogger platform will make this easier to do in the future!

7 years ago- Seeing a blog post in the very beginning makes me smile :)
6 years ago- Still our favorite shrimp recipe
5 years ago- Check out these Alaska Pictures!
4 years ago- Our favorite foods in Anchorage

Paige: 1 Month

Wednesday, July 20, 2016
Not sure if you're supposed to count 4 weeks or to the day for the 1 month marker. We'll split the difference: take the pictures on the 4 week mark and post the pictures on the 21st. Perfect.

Here's the little miss:

Hanging out with mostly stuffed animal friends until we get our 2 month shots :)

My mini-me Big Girl

Who's who? Morning snuggles.

Shopping with mom. Lookout every other customer in Whole Foods. Literally, watch your heels because Claire runs into things all the time.

Injured Puppy. So it's been a good 2 years since the last injury in Alaska. But 2 knee replacement surgeries aren't the kind of thing you want to repeat. Anyway Roma was playing fetch outside and she lost a nail somehow. So Ross had to take her to urgent care to get stitched up. Lots of money later, we're still treating the injury. Best part is that Roma has no idea she's injured.

Little Sweet P. Hanging out with Mom all day.

First outing post baby- Brunch!

Happy Hump Day!

Here's a look at some sweet little baby Paige pictures:

And one of the whole family (sans Roma):

And here's what all these pictures turned into!

Dr. Jeff

Wednesday, July 13, 2016
I have to interrupt the "Paige picture broadcast" to show something super cool, call it a proud sister moment.

Little bro is officially official! This white coat is on point :)

Doctor Jeff.

Uncle Jeff.

Random thought: why do doctors wear a white coat anyway? isn't that the last color you want to be wearing? shouldn't they wear scrubs?

I'll have to consult with Doctor Jeff to get a proper answer on this one.

Splish Splash, Paige's First Bath

Tuesday, July 12, 2016
Paige was ok with her first bath time at the hospital, until she got cold. Then, it was not her favorite thing.

All warm again

I wish they also trimmed baby finger nails at the hospital to save Momma's the trauma of nicking a newborn baby, which leads to blood (baby) and tears (mostly Momma). Ahh, but they don't. They just put socks over their hands and send you home to do the deed :(

Meeting Paige

Monday, July 11, 2016
It turned out baby Paige came into this world a whole lot faster than anyone predicted. I started feeling extreme pain at about 5:15pm even though I already had the epidural. The nurse paged the anesthesiologist to administer additional meds in my epidural, but by the time he showed up Paige had already arrived! My doctor just happened to come check on me at exactly the right time. She said the reason that I was in so much pain was because I was not pushing and baby girl was on her way so the pressure was building up. They could barely get the staff in the room fast enough and the equipment in place, then I pushed 4 times and baby Paige came out. Such a different birth story than with big sister Claire (ahem, 2 hours of pushing...).

Emotions.

In the end, I delivered baby so fast my body couldn't quite keep up. My blood pressure shot through the roof, which was monitored closely the next few days. I also got uncontrollable chills/shakes which took a couple hours to get rid of. But baby Paige got an A+ on her health check and nothing else seemed to matter.

6lbs 13oz, 20.75" long... Perfect!

Nothing can quite describe the feeling of meeting your baby for the first time. Something like a mix of relief, love, hope, exhaustion, thankfulness, and excitement.

Arriving at the Hospital

Sunday, July 10, 2016
I had perhaps a different birth story than I anticipated simply because I was induced rather than rushing to the hospital in labor. My doctor felt most comfortable delivering baby sometime between 40w 4d and 41 weeks, so that's exactly what we did. We went into Texas Children's Women's Pavilion around 8 AM Tuesday June 21 when we got a call from the head nurse that my bed/room was all ready.

After answering what seemed like 2 hours worth of questions I got started on Pitosin and antibiotics at 11 AM. I asked for the epidural at 2 and got it around 3pm, then the doctor broke my water around 3:30. She told me I was about 7 cm dilated and that she'd be back to check on me in a couple hours.

To be continued... :)
